Robert Overweg
Robert started taking photographs in virtual worlds back in 2007 when everybody still thought this was silly, some still do. His work was covered by the BBC, Esquire, Gizmodo, Kotaku NRC Handelsblad, and others.
He has exhibited all over the world ranging from Centre Pompidou, the Seoul media biennial, to most recently the photography biennial in Odense Norway.
Robert Overweg is a photographer in virtual world environments. These environments appear in first and third-person shooter games but Overweg sees them operating as a direct extension of his physical world, revealing the new public space of contemporary society.
Overweg proceeds to the outskirts of the virtual world which he dissects through his photography. In doing so, he draws our attention to environments that are often overlooked and yet ironically appear eerily familiar.
Robert combines his passion for the virtual world with his role as an innovation catalyst and tries to improve the world a bit.: www.robertoverweg.com
He also teaches how to cultivate an open and adaptable mindset.
